The Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami is currently accepting applications for Seasonal Youth employment.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Municipality of Temagami is seeking summer youth employees for various municipal departments. Some of the duties that will be required of the employees will include, but are not limited to; programs & events, general tourism related initiatives, administrative duties, property maintenance (mowing, trimming, brushing, painting, sanding), general labour work and any other duties as they arise.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations;
• Valid class G driver’s license would be an asset.

JOB DETAILS:
• 40 Hours a week including evenings and weekends.

Part time Transfer Station attendants

The Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami is currently seeking responsible and motivated individuals to join our team as part-time Lake Temagami Access Point Transfer Station Attendants

 

The requirements for this position include:

• The service is to be provided in a safe, timely, efficient and environmentally safe manner.

• Must follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act, other safety practices and wear the appropriate PPE.

• The Transfer Station Attendant shall use pleasant manner and sound judgment when dealing with the public.

• Ensuring the Transfer Station is operating in accordance with the Certificate of Approval. • Identify waste entering the transfer station and screening for prohibited waste.

• Direct and ensure the waste is separated and deposited to the appropriate bin.

• Maintain order and cleanliness of grounds and buildings including, preventing blow litter.

• Records/logs to be completed daily and submitted weekly to the Municipal Office.

• Determine if a user is a resident or not.

• Responsible for determining appropriate tipping fees in accordance with the Municipality’s User Fee By-law;

the Attendant must provide receipt;

Attendant must maintain receipt book and account to Public Works for all cash receipts.

Must also forward paperwork to the Municipal Office weekly for invoicing.

• Use authority to disallow scavenging (no salvage rights, the Municipality retains ALL salvage rights).

• Report discrepancies or problems immediately to 705 569-3421 ext. 205

• This position requires the successful candidate to work weekends and could include evenings and/or holidays

Position Title: Waste Site Attendant

Position Overview 


Under the guidance of Public Works Superintendent, the Waste Site Attendant ensures that  the  Landfill  Sites  and  Transfer  Stations  are  operated  in  accordance  with  the Certificate of Approval for each site.


The Waste Site Attendance deals with residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner; this may include receiving complaints of quality of service.  Any such complaints are forwarded in accordance with the Municipal Complaints Policy.


Essential Job Functions 
•    Ensures the Landfill Site or Transfer Station is safe when open to the public
•    Ensures waste operations are in accordance with the Certificate of Approval
•    Maintain order and cleanliness of grounds and buildings, including preventing blow litter whenever possible
•    Ensure user is a resident or has a valid dump card
•    Identify waste entering the waste site, screening for prohibited waste
•    Direct users to deposit waste in the appropriate area, separated when necessary
•    Determining an appropriate tipping fee in accordance with the User Fee By-Law including collecting tipping fees
•    Providing receipts to the user and to Administration for tipping fees collected
•    Providing receipts to the user and to Administration for any tipping fees to be invoiced
•    Provide assistance to the weekly garbage collection process
•    All other duties as assigned
Other Departments
•    May be assigned to work in the Public Works and/or Recreation areas
•    Safe operation of equipment 
•    Complete the training on all power equipment necessary for use.
•    Landscaping throughout the Municipality. (Grass cutting, trimming, etc.)
•    All other duties as assignedQualifications/Experience Requirements
Preferred Qualifications and Abilities
•    Valid G Driver’s License
•    Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
•    Provide a criminal record and vulnerable sector check for review and acceptance
•    Flexibility to perform duties after regular hours, on weekends and holidays, to meet program needs
•    Must be medically and physically able to perform all of the duties of the position on an ongoing basis
Knowledge
•    Knowledge of equipment maintenance
•    Knowledge of workplace safety requirements
•    Knowledge of record keeping
•    Knowledge of operating small equipment, as required
Skills
•    Ability to operate equipment in a safe and responsible manner
•    Effective verbal and listening communication skills

•    Occasional exposure to unpleasant or irate people
•    Occasionally required to lift more than 30 lbs
