PARKS & RECREATION ASSISTANT

The Municipality of Temagami is currently seeking applications for a Part time 1-Year Contract Parks & Recreation Assistant

Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator / Facility Operator, the Parks & Recreation Assistant will support the delivery of recreation programs, arena operations, and municipal facility services. This role requires evening and weekend availability.

Key Duties:

  • Assist with recreational and cultural programming.
  • Support special events, including set-up and tear-down.
  • Carry out facility maintenance and janitorial duties.
  • Support arena operations including cleaning, ice maintenance, canteen services, and skate sharpening.
  • Run ice programming such as public skating and pickup hockey.
  • Assist and learn the operation of the ice resurfacer.
  • Conduct daily checks and assist with the operation of the chalet and water system.
  • Perform regular inspections and upkeep of municipal assets including the arena, chalet, parks, outdoor sports facilities, recreational swimming areas, walking trails, the Temagami Tower, and related amenities.
  • Support grounds keeping tasks such as garbage collection, grass maintenance, gardening, and general upkeep of public spaces.
  • Support basic asset management practices by tracking facility and equipment condition and use.
  • Provide assistance with facility rentals and community activities.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Experience in recreation, facilities, or events considered an asset.
  • ORFA courses in ice plant maintenance would be an asset.
  • Willingness to learn ice resurfacer operation and asset management practices.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and First Aid/CPR certification considered assets.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required.

Details:

This is a part-time contract position for one year. Evening and weekend work will be required and my require overtime hours.
