Temagami Featured in Regional Film and Television Sector Project

Temagami is featured in the recent launch of the Regional Film and Television Sector Development initiative. The project, spearheaded by the City of North Bay, promotes filming in the region and works with various industry stakeholders and community partners to bring productions to the area. In addition to Temagami, the municipalities of North Bay, Mattawa, West Nipissing, Callander and Powassan are partners in the portal project. Funding secured through the Northern Communities Investment Readiness program (NCIR) made the project possible and allowed the smaller municipalities to participate at a reasonable cost.

Film, video and digital media production in Ontario is a billion dollar a year industry. It creates jobs and economic spinoff benefits for host locations. The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) offers tax credits, research, and assistance programs to attract productions in Ontario.

Temagami has been featured in film and video productions in the past such as Mantracker, a CityTV documentary, and in productions such as That Beautiful Somewhere which was shot in Temagami in 2006.

The sector development project involves a searchable inventory of photography and images that showcase unique film locations. Temagami's Fire Tower, the former mine site, old growth forests, ice roads, local resorts, and wilderness are just some examples that may attract the attention of a movie scout or production company to film in the area.
