In 2014, the Municipality of Temagami instituted an annual Municipal Awards Program.

Over the years, there have been a number of outstanding citizens in Temagami: people who have made a difference to the quality of life for the community and/or started a legacy that has had an enduring impact on the people of Temagami and people continue to contribute in meaningful ways and give back to this community and its people.

The Council of the Municipality of Temagami felt it appropriate to institute a formal program to recognize those who volunteer and those who go above and beyond in their efforts to benefit others. By this means, Council intends to honour our outstanding citizens. This program is intended to recognize volunteers that provide or have provided exceptional service, and also those who have had a profound impact for good on the community, which may have been accomplished by going above and beyond that which is normally required in the course of their vocation, career, business or public office.

This award program includes all people of Temagami, including seasonal residents, whose time spent in this community and contributing to this community truly makes a difference and has a very positive impact on the quality of life in Temagami.

There are three categories in which awards may be given: Citizen of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and Posthumous Lifetime Achievement. A single award could be made to one individual, or to more than one individual such as a couple or a family, or a group of persons such as the founding members of a group or organization that is now sustainable and recognized in the community. Normally there will be only one award in each category in each year. The categories are as follows:

Citizen of the Year:

Presented each year to a person, persons or group that has improved the quality of life for the people of Temagami in that year.

Lifetime Achievement Award:

Presented to a person or persons or group that has enhanced the quality of life for the people of Temagami on an ongoing basis for an extended period of time. Nominees do not need to be in their senior years, be considered for a lifetime achievement award. Rather they must have made a sufficiently significant positive impact on the community to have made a lasting difference in the community.

Posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award:

This award will be awarded to someone who is deceased, having left the community a better place for them having been here. This is not intended to be simply a memorial for deceased individual, but to recognize someone who has left a lasting legacy of benefit to the community.

All nominations are to be submitted on the Municipality's nomination form. Forms can be downloaded from this page, or picked up at the Municipal Office. Nominations can be made by any resident (year-round or seasonal) or landowner within the Municipality of Temagami or their immediate family members, but self-nominations are not permitted.
