Welcome to the Municipality of Temagami!
Temagami is a very beautiful area, known world wide for its clean waters, rugged terrain, and old growth pine. It is a popular vacation spot for cottagers, visitors to tourist lodges, and those seeking an exceptional wilderness experience. Our municipality encompasses a very large area (roughly three times the size of the City of Toronto geographically, with approximately 90% of this area being Crown Land.) Within our geographic boundaries is Bear Island, which is a First Nations reserve. Our two communities work well together in a spirit of cooperation and understanding, as we seek the same goals of preserving Temagami’s natural values while promoting growth that will be beneficial to our people. The Municipality has also established excellent working relationships with local ministry representatives, cottager and tourist associations, Chambers of Commerce and neighbouring municipalities. Located right on Highway 11, a major transCanada transportation route, and with excellent rail access, Temagami is a prime place to locate a business. In order to promote economic growth in Temagami, our Council and staff have been working to acquire more Crown Land for future development, to improve our base infrastructure, and to improve marketing strategies. Our Municipal Council has now completed two years, or half of its term in office. We are very pleased to see the growth and development that has been accomplished so far in this term. These include:
Projects anticipated during the remainder of Council’s term include:
We as a community welcome tourism, the development of new businesses and appreciate new residents to our area.I believe that with the hard work of our dedicated Municipal Council and staff, and with community support and cooperation, the diverse sectors of our Municipality will prosper and flourish, while still preserving the pristine and historic nature of the area.
~~~~ Working for Temagami’s future…together! ~~~~~
