NEW COUNCILLOR APPOINTED

At the January 28, 2010 Council meeting, Sam Barnes was appointed to fill the vacant seat on Council.

BY-LAWS NOTICE

This is to inform residents that the Council of the Municipality of Temagami intends to pass or give reading to the following by-laws at the February 11, 2010 Regular Council meeting:

Bylaw 10-896: to adopt a Municipal Facility Rental Policy for the Municipality of Temagami;

By-law No. 10-899: to apply weight restrictions on Municipal Roads;

By-law No. 10-903: to amend By-law No. 09-887, being a by-law to adopt a Human Resources Policy for the Municipality of Temagami.

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETINGS – BUDGET

Three special meetings of Council have been called to discuss the draft 2010 Municipal Budget. These meetings are open to residents to observe. They will be held in the Council Chambers of the Welcome Centre at 7 Lakeshore road on:

Wednesday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m.
Operating budgets for Protection to Persons and Property, Planning, Parks and Recreation, Health and Social Services.

Wednesday, February 17 at 7:00 p.m
Operating budgets for General Government & Finance, Public Works, and Economic Development.

Monday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m.
Capital Budget, User Fees

Animal Control:
Dog and Cat tags are available at the Municipal Office.
Tags are required for each dog or cat within the household.
Effective with the 2010 Tag, dog tags are now lifetime instead of annual.

Standard Lifetime Fee for Dog or Cat - $ 40.00
Lifetime Fee for Spayed or Neutered Dog or Cat - $ 30.00
Lifetime Dog or Cat Fee for Senior owner - $ 30.00
Lifetime Fee for Spayed/Neutered Dog or Cat + Senior Owner - $ 20.00

BY-LAWS Notice

This is to inform residents that the Council of the Municipality of Temagami intends to pass or give reading to the following by-laws at the January 14, 2010 Regular Council meeting:

By-law No. 10-893 - Being a bylaw to provide for an interim tax levy for 2010;
By-law No. 10-894 - Being a bylaw to authorize borrowing for 2010;
By-law No. 10-870 - Being a by-law to regulate the keeping of animals and the registration of dogs and cats (Animal Control Bylaw).

PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE

We are looking for one person to sit on the PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. If you are interested in volunteering one evening per month, please contact Deb Larochelle at the Public Works Office at 569-3272.

MUNICIPAL COUNCIL MEETING INFORMATION PACKAGES

Council Information Packages are now available for public viewing at the Temagami Public Library, the Employment Resource Centre and the Town Office from the Wednesday afternoon before each Council meeting for approximately one month.  These packages will also be available at Council meetings for public use.

Individuals or organizations who would like copies of the information packages mailed to them each month may purchase an annual subscription for an annual cost of $150.00 to cover paper, printing and mailing costs.  Please contact the municipal office for more details.

CHANGES TO DESIGNATED OVERNIGHT PARKING

The new overnight parking lot on Steven’s Road (across from the Fire Hall) is now ready for use. This replaces the former overnight and boat-trailer parking lot where the new Family Health Team building is now located. The new parking area is just across the O’Connor Drive from where the former one was located.

Water Plant Reports Available for Viewing

This is to inform residents that the Annual Compliance & Summary Reports for the Temagami North and Temagami South Water Treatment Facilities are available at the Municipal Office for viewing during regular business hours.

Public Notice

Effective October 11, 2004, the Temagami and Briggs Municipal Waste Disposal Sites hours will change, these sites will be locked at all times other than the Open Hours listed below. There will be a Dump Attendant at the site during the open hours to direct you to the appropriate location in the site for the material being dumped. There will be no scavenging unless authorized by the Dump Attendant.There is to be no dumping of waste at the gate. Everyone is asked to co-operate in this effort and to report any damage or dumping at the Waste Disposal Site to the Municipality of Temagami. All non-rate-payers will be expected to pay an annual tipping fee. Temagami rate-payers will not be asked to pay a fee for regular waste. For more information on what can be left at the sites, please contact Deb at 569-3272 in the afternoons Monday to Friday.

PERMITTING PROCESS:

Burning Permits:
Applications are available at the Municipal Office.
A burning permit is required from April 1st to October 31st.
The cost for a burning permit is as follows:
$10.00 per week
$20.00 per month
$40.00 per season

- Neutered (with Veterinary proof) $20.00
- Non Neutered $30.00
iii) Senior Discount Tag Cost $ 5.00
iv) Kennel License $35.00
v) Guide Dogs No Charge
vi) Police Work Dogs No Charge
